#TORsday – Erebor™ – The Lonely Mountain

We’re all hard at work on the second edition of The One Ring. Did you catch our update last week? In the meantime, Jacob Rogers discusses Erebor™ The Lonely Mountain and its conversion into Lonely Mountain Region Guide for Adventures in Middle-earth™.

Hello everyone! I’m Jacob Rodgers and I work for Cubicle 7, doing mostly writing and development work for The One Ring and Adventures in Middle-earth™.

My history with both Middle-earth™ and roleplaying games extends for decades — the very first game I ever bought was the first edition boxed set for Middle-earth™ Role Playing soon after completing the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the first time!

As it’s #TORsday here at Cubicle 7, I’ve decided to take a look back at Erebor™ – The Lonely Mountain, released in 2016 by Cubicle 7 for The One Ring Roleplaying Game™ and recently converted for Adventures in Middle-earth™ as the  Lonely Mountain Region Guide.

The Dwarves of Erebor have been one of the foundational Cultures of the game since its original release in 2011. So it was high time to explore the Lonely Mountain and its surroundings in more detail. But we didn’t limit ourselves to just the Mountain: we decided to cover Dale and the lands surrounding the two kingdoms, from the Grey Mountains in the north to the fast-flowing Celduin in the south.

We spend time tracing the history of the Dwarves, especially the War of the Dwarves and the Orcs and the tragedy of Azanûlbizar. But we also learn the secrets of Dwarven crafting and introduce two new Cultures: the Dwarves of the Iron Hills, and the Dwarves of the Grey Mountains.

But no discussion of Dwarves, their history, their craft and their home would be complete without discussing their most devious of foes: the great Dragons. Erebor introduces rules for making your own custom Dragons, from a dragonet that has yet to terrorise its first village to the most powerful and dangerous beasts of the Third Age!

The conversion into the Lonely Mountain Region Guide for Adventures in Middle-earth™ sees all of this rich material made ready to use in your game. Additionally, there are custom Journey Event tables for the region and suggestions on how to use the journey rules to spice up visits to cities like Dale. We think you’ll be especially excited to see our rules on creating the unique Dragons of Middle-earth™ using the OGL rules framework!
